About Toad Hall – a potted history

Toad Hall Welcome BoardToad Hall Pre-school started life as a small privately owned playgroup in the mid sixties. Since then it changed venue and leadership a couple of times and eventually settled in St. Gabriel’s Church Hall in 1979 where it became officially know as Toad Hall Playgroup. Sue Fitzsimmons took over as play leader in 1982 and in 1995 the decision was taken to be known as Toad Hall Pre-School. Major refurbishment took place in 1997 and we happily moved across to the bright new hall where we are today, Sue retired in December 2010 and Nicky Blunt took over as manager in January 2011.The group has slowly evolved from that small privately run playgroup into the thriving 60+ place community pre-school who welcome you today, managed by a committee of parents and supported by a very experienced team of eleven staff.

Toad Hall has built up an enviable reputation of providing excellent care for our under 5’s, placing strong emphasis on their social and emotional development. As such, we have been recognized by OFSTED as an OUTSTANDING provider for three consecutive inspections.

Be Involved

Garden FrogsIt is most important that parents feel they are welcome to stay to settle their child into their initial sessions. We strongly believe that parents and pre-school staff are joint partners in the development and care of our children and we value any contribution you may be able to offer our group. Maybe you have a particular skill or talent you could share with us such as playing an instrument or telling stories. Perhaps you would like to take an active role on the committee – a very worthwhile commitment. You may like to join in one of our sessions to see what goes on, so that you can share the experiences with your child. We would be delighted to have you. Just put your name down for a Stay & Play session on the notice board at a time convenient to you, or have a chat with your child’s key worker.

Beyond Pre-school

We continue to build links with Hyde Park Infant School where the majority of our children transfer prior to their fifth birthday. We recognize how important it is for your child to have a smooth transition from one setting to the next. We hope you and your family enjoy your time with us. Our promise to you is that we will do all we can to provide a stimulating experience for your child to enable him or her to reach their full potential and help foster respect and enjoy the companionship of the adults and children met along the way.
